Focused certification, not a placement-track programme

This is a single-tool certification, not MAAC's full career programme. If you want the complete studio pipeline for 3D Animation instead, the full course covers it — with placement assistance and scheme eligibility this short course doesn't carry.

Where this is used in the industry

Blender is free and open-source, which has made it the fastest-growing 3D tool for independent artists, small studios and freelancers who can't justify a Maya or 3ds Max licence before they have paying work.

A small but growing number of production studios now accept or actively use Blender pipelines, and its Grease Pencil and sculpting tools are used in 2D/3D hybrid productions specifically because no other package does that combination as well.

What you'll learn

  • Modelling and digital sculpting in Blender's mesh and sculpt modes
  • Node-based shading and material setup
  • Rigging with Blender's armature system
  • Cycles and Eevee rendering, and when to use which
  • Exporting clean, game- and film-pipeline-ready assets

Software toolkit

The industry-standard applications this course is built around.

  • Blender

Adobe, Unity and all other product names listed are trademarks of their respective owners. MAAC Whitefield is an independent training provider and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any of these companies.

Who this course suits

Students and career-changers who want to build a portfolio before committing to a paid licence elsewhere

Freelancers and independent creators who intend to keep using the same free tool professionally after the course ends

Working professionals exploring a move into 3D without their employer funding a licensed-software course first

What you'll be able to make

  • A sculpted and retopologised character or creature asset

  • A shaded, textured hard-surface prop

  • A lit still render in both Cycles and Eevee for comparison

  • A short animated loop exported for a portfolio reel

Illustrations of the kind of work this course builds towards, not student work. Photographs of real MAAC Whitefield student projects will replace them as batches graduate.
